We love shooting in Australia. From the great cityscapes in Sydney, the fantastic freeway system in film-friendly Melbourne (great for car spots), the golden surf beaches of Queensland to the vast outback, Australia provides locations that hold a unique beauty, and can appear as diverse as the surface of Mars or downtown New York city.

Cranbrook's Australian operation is based in Sydney. We work with awesome, committed, experienced technical crews and creative talent.

GEOGRAPHY

Australia is vast: 7,682,300 sq km: larger than the mainland United States. Its massive landmass lies between the Pacific Ocean and Asia. Most urban areas fringe the country and central Australia is very sparsely populated. Because of its size and location, Australia boasts enormous variety in its landscapes, flora and fauna, and has every type of environment from desert outback to rainforests and canyons, rivers and lakes. Tasmania is the island to the south east of mainland Australia.

CLIMATE

Australia's seasons are the opposite of the Northern Hemisphere. The warmest months are December through to March, and the coolest months are June to August. Australia can have baking, scorching heat up to 50 degrees in some parts of the north and the outback, but most cities are temperate or sub-tropical year-round with temperatures ranging between 10 and 30 degrees. Australia's weather is reasonably reliable with clear sunshine and warmth especially in the summer months.

CURRENCY

Australia's unit of currency is the Australian dollar (AU$).

TIME ZONES

Within Australia the timezones vary from city to city. Sydney is:

2 hours behind New Zealand
18 hours ahead of Los Angeles
15 hours ahead of New York
10 hours ahead of the United Kingdom

POPULATION

Australia is an independent nation and a member of the British Commonwealth. Its population is around 18,750,000, with the majority of British descent - multi-cultural minorities are growing. The indigenous people are the Australian Aboriginals and they make up just over 1% of the total population.

LANGUAGE

English is the common and official language of Australia.
